Hi, I'm Kit
Paper Kite Arts Founder
I’m a musical theater composer, lyricist, and librettist with a passion for spreading the joy of musical theater.
I’ve written over 15 produced musicals, including for NPR, and for New York City and international productions.
I started Paper Kite Arts to help writers gain tools and confidence to write their own musicals. We offer:
- Real-time online classes and workshops
- Become Your Own Composer: Writing Music for Playwrights, Lyricists & Librettists, an online course designed to help creative theater people stop waiting to find the perfect composer for their project, and become their own perfect composer.
At Paper Kite Arts we don’t teach creativity – we give you the tools to help you harness your inner creativity and spread your wings.
About the Name
Paper Kite Arts is named after the Paper Kite butterfly.
I initially stumbled on the name when visiting a butterfly garden in Rochester, NY, where I had the great honor to be repeatedly used as a landing place for a gorgeous butterfly, which I later learned was called a Paper Kite. Being a writer, I was, of course, attracted to the idea of anything to do with paper, and I instantly adopted the name for my publishing company.
Later, when beginning to teach the arts, I realized all of the cliché butterfly metaphors apply, as students acquire knowledge and are able to come out of their cocoons* and stretch their wings and fly. Now, I wouldn’t be caught dead writing that in a lyric, but, well, gosh darn it I love that name. So, join me in a lovely cliché and come spread your wings with Paper Kite Arts!TELL ME MORE
